To determine the relationship of two descendants of a common progenitor, first think of the common progenitor, upper left box (Father). Then trace one descendant's link on the top line, the other descendant's link down the left column. Follow the line and the column to where they cross and read the relationship.
NOTE: Even though masculine gender has been used in this chart, the same rules apply to the feminine terms as well. Just plug in "daughter" for "son", "neice" for "nephew", etc.
