Orseltie Dircxs (her mark)
Nothing more is known of the Westbroek family until 1674 when "Orsseltie Jans" petitioned for a lot in the Esopus valley (now Kingston, Ulster County, N.Y.) for a distillery (Dutch Court Records Kingston, in Holland Society Year Book. 1897, page 125) She is called Jans from the patronymic of her husband, as was quite usual at that time. The next record of her is found in the Kingston Dutch Church baptismal Register when on December 22, 1678, "Orseltie Dirxs" was sole sponsor of the child Marya, of Michiel de Moth, Annetie Westbroek, baptized at Hurley (near Kingston) (R.R. Hoes: Register of the Kingston Dutch Church, bapt. no. 166) The mother Annetie Westbroek, is also in some baptisms Annetie Antoni. In the baptism of her child Johannes de Mott, Oct 8, 1682, her brother "Johannes Wesbrouck" was a sponsor (KB no. 282). The date of her death is not known.
