Jacob son of Richard was born Columbia County, and followed farming all his
life, after his marriage settling on the farm in Madison township now owned
by his son Cyrus. He was a prosperous man and prominent in all the activities
of his locality, serving as justice of the peace, county commissioner (before
the counties were divided) and supervisor of the poor. For nearly sixty years
he was a member of the Baptist Church, and held the offices of deacon and
elder.
