Michael V. Gilson, 77 co-founder of the Gilson Bros. Foundry in Fredonia, died of a lingering illness on Friday, Nov. 10, at St. Alphonsus hospital, Port Washington. Mr. Gilson was born at Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg on July 18, 1884, and in 1901 came to Port Washington where he worked in a foundry. With his brother, John, he founded the Gilson Bros. firm in 1911, and served as treasurer and member of the board of directors of the firm which is internationally known in the concrete mixer field. He was married on June 15, 1915 to Ann Frisch at Aurora, ILL. They settled at Fredonia where they continued to reside. Survivors are his wife; one son Jerome; one daughter-in-law, Mary; two grandchildren; one brother, John, all of Fredonia, and two sisters, Mrs Anna Duprel of Sturgis, South Dakota, and Mrs. Al (Josephine) Untereiner of Dimock, SD. He was a member of St. Rose court, Catholic Order of Foresters, Fredonia. Funeral services were held at 9:45 a.m. tuesday, Nov. 14, from the Poole funeral home, Port Washington, to St. Rose of Lima Catholic church where Father Leonard Novotny, pastor, officiated at a solemn high Mass at 10:30. Interment was made at the parish cemetery.
Ozaukee Press, Thursday November 16, 1961 Michael "Mike" V. Gilson, Fredonia industrialist, died at St. Alphonsus hospital on Friday, Nov. 10, at 6:15 p.m. He was 77 years of age and had been active in the Gilson Foundry of which he was co-founder with his brother, John, in 1911, until August when he spent a brief period of time at Mayo Clinic at Rochester. He returned to his home at 211 S. Milwaukee St., Fredonia and following that spent three weeks at St. Alphonsus before again returning to his home. He was admitted to St. Alphonsus hospital on Oct. 20 where he remained until his death. The Gilson foundry of which he was treasurer and a member of the board of directors began with the manufacturing of corn huskers later branching into the field of concrete mixers, rotary tillers and garden equipment. The corporation presently maintains factories at Fredonia, Plymouth, Oostburg and Statesville, NC. Mr. Gilson was born in Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg on July 18, 1884 and came to this country with his family in 1901. They resided in Port Washington until 1911 when they established residence in Fredonia where he continued to live following his marriage to Ann Frisch on June 15, 1915 at Aurora, IL. The deceased was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters of St. Rose of Lima Court, Fredonia. Survivors in addition to his wife, Ann are a son, Jerome, and daughter-in-law, Mary, of Fredonia; two grandchildren; a brother, John of Fredonia, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Duprel of Sturgis, SD and Mrs. Al (Josephine) Untereiner of Dimock, SD. The solemn requiem high mass on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m. was read by the Rev. Leonard Novotny, pastor of St. Rose of Lima church, Fredonia. He was assisted by two former pastors of the parish, Rev. Robert Bier of Johnsburg, Wis. and Rev. Ermin Freund of St. Mary's, Lake Church. Another former pastor at Fredonia, Father Nowicki of Milwaukee also attended the funeral services. The Poole Funeral Home at Port Washington directed the funeral. Pallbearers were Philip, John and Robert Steffen, Earl Horn, John Untereiner and Nic. A. Frisch. Attending the funeral were Mrs. Ann Duprel and her daughter, Mrs. Dewey Tallman of Sturgis, SD; Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Untereiner and Mr. and Mrs. John Untereiner all of Dimock, SD, Mrs. J. W. Quinn of LaCrosse; Mrs. Mary Abens and Nic. A. Frisch of Aurora, IL; Mrs. Ray Mirr and Mr. and Mrs. John Schaver of Milwaukee; Clarence Weber and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Horn Sr. of Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Saporsky of Gary, IN; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Nyenhuis, Jim Daane, Nic DeTroye and Ca Schaap of Oostburg; Mrs. Roman Versch and Mr. and Mrs. Ziehn of Plymouth; Katie Meinhols of Johnsburg; Mrs. Lena Kapicken of Cedarburg and Mr. and Mrs. John Iloncia of Saukville.
